THE GOAL On June 28th, 2010 I ascended the Grouse Grind 14 times in a single day, matching my goal and setting a new world record. I targeted $15,000 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation as my fundraising goal. By the end of the summer I had raised nearly $9,000 (although, donations are STILL accepted).
WHY did I do it? I raised money and awareness for the Shelter Foundation. This charity is devoted to protecting women and children from domestic abuse. I feel passionately that every one of us should have a safe home that is free of fear.

HELP me reach my goal of raising $15,000 in 2010. Every penny donated goes goes directly to those in need (all administrative costs of running the charity are paid for by Royal LePage. I hope that you can help me in my efforts by donating to the RLP Shelter Foundation.
HISTORY I have done this before. In 2009, I ascended the Grouse Grind a record 13 times in one day and raised nearly $10,000 for the RLP Shelter Foundation. I also reached the summit 12 times in 2008. Vicki Mann currently holds the female record at 13 while previous male record holders include Jason Chong and Harvey Nelson.

THE GROUSE GRIND is a 2.9km trail that was initially established by local mountaineers as a convenient, intense off-season workout. While it often feels as though the trail goes straight up, it's average grade is 30 degrees...giving it the nickname of "mother nature's stairclimber"...and takes an average hiker 1.5 hrs to climb.
What is it like climbing the Grouse Grind 14 times in one day? I will begin my challenge at the base of Grouse Mountain at 6:30am and I will only stop climbing when the gondolas shut down at 11pm in order to break the record. The vertical distance can be compared to climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest 1.5 times in one day. I will burn approximately 15,000 calories.

Added incentive. For every Grind ascent less than 12 that I achieve (barring accidental death or dismemberment), I shall donate $1,000 of my own money to the cause.
